Course Overview

This second course will guide you with the basics of Dynamic Scheduling and the whys and hows of using Microsoft Project software 2010/2013. This training focuses on schedule management, estimating and organizing tasks, deliverables and critical path in the context of implementing project time management good practices using MS Project Gantt Chart and other productivity tools.

Topics and Learning Objectives

Unit 1 (2 hours 1/2): Plan Schedule Management: Tasks Estimating and Managing Dependencies

    • Learn the basics of estimating your project's tasks
    • Understand constraints, dependencies, and deadlines, including when to use
    • Explore task calendars and task types
    • Recognize the role of the above within MS Project’s dynamic scheduling

Unit 2 (1 hour 45 minutes): Managing the Activity List: Sorting and Filtering Tasks

  • How to sort and group tasks
  • What are AutoFilters and how can you use them to your advantage
  • What is the Task Inspector. Why is it useful?
  • What is Task Priority. What is its impact on your project?
  • Recognize the new Task Inspector capabilities for resolving scheduling conflicts

Unit 3 (2 hours): Managing Deliverable Dates Using MS Project Timeline and Timeline Tools

  • Project management of plans and schedules, where parallel work is required, such as in fiercely competitive "first to market" situations
  • Understanding and managing deliverable dates, planned completion deadlines, and milestones across multi-project teams

Unit 4 (1 hour 45 minutes): Visualizing Project Schedule Using MS Project Gantt Chart

  • Learn about the Detail Gantt and how to view current tasks in Gantt Chart
  • Discover the various Gantt Chart date features and options
  • Explore the Calendar View and its benefits and limitations

Unit 5 (2 hours): Critical Path Using MS Project Tools

  • Inactive tasks and what-if scenario
  • How MS Project determines the Critical Path
  • Finding the Critical Path
  • Viewing your project as a Network Diagram
