I did not look at setting a date for the PMP certification until after I was satisfied I had a reasonable chance of passing - i.e. I did not set the date then prepare for the exam. It was about 1 month elapsed between studying and sitting the exam - about 120 hours.

I used to be a System Engineer for 4 years.  In the 3rd year I started getting project assignment as project coordinator for global scale in my previous company.  At that time I started to realize that Project Management is my interest, instead of technical field.  From then I started to learn about PMP and started preparing the exam since 2006.

I had already been doing project management in 2006 and was looking for a framework to help me out. PMP was just the right thing.

In 2005 it seemed like companies like the one I work for were hiring project managers with not just on the job experience, but also a certification like PRINCE2 or PMP. So I decided that summer to prepare for the PMP exam.

I prepared for the PMP certification because I was an IT professional and I wanted to gain more responsibility in my organization. I realized that to get where I wanted to go, I needed the PMP training, knowledge, and designation. This was approximately 4 years ago in 2004.

A couple of years ago I heard about the certification for project managers called PMP. Because I was working a lot in the area of project management I became more and more interested. After reading the PMBOK and getting an idea about what is the philosophy of PMI I thought that it would also be the right path for me to go. Then in autumn 2008 I decided to go for the PMP certification.

About two years ago when a position was announced by my company that required a PMP certification.  I wanted to apply for the job but couldn't without the certification.

As a project manager, formal certification helps bolster your reputation and improve chances of promotion.

I wanted to adopt a formal approach to project management in order to ensure execution of projects within scope, time, and budget. In addition, the PMP credential holds great reputation in the industry. I decided to prepare in June 2005.
