| Doug: | Sure Mike. I’ve heard that you are doing a great job on your projects. |
| Mike: | Yeah. Those are going pretty well, but they consume all of my time. I have little time to do anything else. Today is a perfect example. Thirteen hours after coming to work, I am finally leaving work, exhausted. |
| Doug: | So go home. Have a beer. Rest up. De-stress. |
| Mike: | Easier said than done. I am behind the proverbial eight-ball with my PMP recertification. |
| Doug: | When do you need to recertify? |
| Mike: | By the end of this year, and I somehow need to earn 24 PDUs in that time. |
| Doug: |
Okay. I’ve recertified twice since becoming a PMP. From the perspective of an old PMP, let me fill you in…
There are several categories of PDUs. All of these are explained in CCR Credential Handbook published by PMI.org. You can find it in the Certification Program link under the Professional Development & Careers section. But I have two categories in mind for you. I think you can earn the 24 PDUs you need without adding to your stress level. |
| Mike: | I’m all for that! How do I start? |
| Doug: | Well I am assuming you know about category 2H – as a full-time practitioner of project management, you earn 5 PDUs per calendar year. |
| Mike: | Yeah, I submitted for those PDUs in my first 2 years as a PMP. As a PMI member, I can submit PDU claims online. |
| Doug: | Right. So because we both know that you will continue as a project manager, you will be able to claim 5 PDUs. This will leave you with how many to go? |
| Mike: | I will still need 19 PDUs to recertify! |
| Doug: | No need to worry Mike. You remember how you earned your 35 contact hours to take the PMP exam? |
| Mike: | From PMCAMPUS.com. Their online course really prepared me well for the exam. |
| Doug: | Right. You can also earn PDUs online from them too. I used their online course to help me recertify last year. |
| Mike: | I didn’t realize that PMCAMPUS.com had this offering. What can you tell me about that? |
| Doug: | PMCAMPUS.com has a PMP recertification course that will put you well over the top for your needed PDUs.
They are a PMI-certified Registered Education Provider (REP). Because PMCAMPUS.com is an R.E.P, their online course for recertification is an activity that falls under their Category 3. |
| Mike: | So what does the course offer; that is, besides the PDUs I need to complete the recertification requirement? |
| Doug: | Through their exam simulator (e-SIM), and their study methodology, you can train and get current on project management. The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is in the third edition now; as a PMP and a project management practitioner, you need to stay current with PMBOK. |
| Mike: | That’s right, their methodology works the way people typically learn. I study and answer questions in 10 question blocks by Knowledge Area and Process Group. As you build empirical knowledge in these essential areas, you take what they call mini-exams, right? |
| Doug: | Right. The mini-exams are 25 questions, and they tie together a lot of the knowledge you gained earlier. |
| Mike: | So not only did this methodology to a great job in preparing for taking my PMP exam, but it also works with recertification! |
| Doug: | To recertify, you do not take an exam, but it is PMI’s expectation that in earning the PDUs you need for recertification, that you enhance your knowledge and professional development. So yes, the recertification course offered by PMCAMPUS.com meets that expectation – you are enhancing your professional development. PMI also wants to encourage individualized learning – the online course from PMCAMPUS certainly does that! |
| Mike: | So let’s say I’ve completed the online course from PMCAMPUS.com. What do I get? |
| Doug: | You mean besides the satisfaction of completing the course and staying current with best practices in project management? |
| Mike: | Doug, it’s been a long day… |
| Doug: | Sorry, just giving you a hard time… From PMCAMPUS.com, real-time certificates can be printed that show what you’ve completed in the online course, as well as how well you’ve done in each of the Knowledge Areas and Process Groups. Once you’ve completed the entire recertification course, you will print the certificate for the last time to show what you’ve done and how well you performed. You need to keep this certificate. |
| Mike: | Why? |
| Doug: | Remember PMI’s Audit Program. When you originally applied to take the PMP examination, you agreed that your application was subject to audit by PMI. The audit program extends to the PDU submissions you have made towards recertification. |
| Mike: | So, that’s why I need the certificate? Just in case PMI audits my recertification? |
| Doug: | Exactly. Not to worry though. PMCAMPUS.com is an REP, and the certificate that you print from their e-SIM is accepted as proof that you earned the PDUs from their online course. |
| Mike: | What if I lose the certificate? Have you seen the top of my desk lately, because I haven’t!? |
| Doug: | Well your desk cannot be worse than mine, but no worries if you lose the certificate. PMCAMPUS.com does keep your accomplishment on file, so if you need a replacement certificate, they can provide one. |
| Mike: | Okay Doug. I’m still exhausted from the day, but it sounds like I can satisfy my PDU requirements online. So thanks, my stressful day has ended on a less stressful note! |
| Doug: | No problem … I hate to be the bearer of bad news though, but do I see a rectangular piece of paper flapping on your windshield that a parking ticket? |
| Mike: | Oh @#$%..................... |
